Nwaneri will likely get smoked for his critical comments about Tebow (please vote in poll at bottom of blog)
Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Uche Nwaneri just became the most unpopular player in Jacksonville.
Nwaneri, according to several reports, went on team’s own website message board and ripped Tim Tebow.
Wrote Nwaneri when listing the reasons the Jaguars should not draft Tebow:
“1. He can’t throw, PERIOD.
2. He can’t read any coverage other than probably cover 2 or man.
3. The QB Wildcat WILL NOT WORK IN THIS LEAGUE. PERIOD.
4. He doesn’t know how to take a snap from center.
5. HE CAN’T THROW, and that’s really something you either have or not.”
In a backhanded way, however, Nwaneri did acknowledge it might be nice to have Tebow on the team just to sell some tickets.
“I don’t want to come out for pregame warmups to a COMPLETELY EMPTY STADIUM ANYMORE,” Nwaneri wrote.
Obviously, Nwaneri has a right to his opinion, but my question is this: What dope would publicly state this opinion about the most popular sports figure in Jacksonville … in such a sophomoric way … and on a message board owned by the Jaguars, whose owner Wayne Weaver has already expressed an interested in drafting Tebow?
The other day at Super Bowl Media Day, l asked former Jaguars quarterback Mark Brunell, now a backup with the New Orleans Saints, his thoughts on the Jags drafting Tebow.
“If they want him on the field and they think he can contribute, I think they should draft him,” Brunell said. “I think he’s going to be a good football player. I think he’ll do well at this level.
“But I don’t think Timmy wants to go to Jacksonville if they’re drafting him just to sell tickets. He wants to compete and play. So if they want a good football player, absolutely [draft him].”
